The Manchester worker bee is one of the best-known symbols of Manchester and has been an emblem for the city for over 150 years. The bee denotes Mancunians' hard work ethic and the city being a hive of activity. It has also come to represent the sense of unity in our great city.
The above Royal Mail Paintings were issued on 10 July 1967 by Royal Mail and feature the following stamp designs: 4d 'Master Lambton' (Lawrence); 9d 'Mares and Foals in a Landscape' (Stubbs); 1s 6d 'Children Coming Out of School' (Lowry). The Manchester Bee Cachet first day cover with the Manchester, FDI Postmark postmark has been produced by Royal Mail/Post Office and features these stamps which can make a very collectible and lovely gift.
