Notes: Britain's first Christmas stamps were issued on 1 December, 1966, the designs showing The King of the Orient, and a Snowman, were submitted by Tasveer Shemza and James Berry. The two designs were the winning entries from a competition organised by the then GPO. Pupils at schools throughout the country were invited to take part in a design competition for the Christmas stamps. 5,000 entries were recieved.
